eAMS Learning Activity

Learning Activity Overview Learning Objectives Instructions

Learning Activity Components

Participants must complete a pre-test, a post-test, a reflective questionnaire, and a program feedback questionnaire. It is also recommended to review assigned readings before or after patient interactions. It is advised that you use the eAMS on a minimum of 5 patient charts before applying for credits.

  1. Pre-Test:
    • Consists of 5 multiple-choice questions to measure baseline knowledge of asthma assessment and management.
    • Includes two reflection questions: one for self-reported baseline knowledge and one for reflecting on barriers to practice change.
  2. Literature Review:
    • An opportunity to read, reflect and appraise pertinent literature.
  3. Post-Test and Reflective Questionnaire:
    • Repeats the multiple-choice questions from the pre-test to measure objective knowledge changes.
    • Asks participants to reflect on changes in their knowledge, skills, and clinical practice, as well as overcoming barriers to practice change.
    • Includes questions to evaluate changes in CanMEDS roles.
  4. Evaluation:
    • Participants evaluate the session and provide feedback on the activity (this is incorporated in the post-test).

Learning Objectives

The eAMS learning activity has been designed with the following learning objectives in mind, whereby at the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the patients with asthma in their practice
  2. Identify criteria for asthma control and exacerbation risk
  3. Assess the existing control level and exacerbation risk in patients in their practice, as well as reasons for poor control
  4. Identify asthma guideline recommendations for pharmacotherapy escalation and de-escalation, based on current disease control level
  5. Identify the existing adequacy of pharmacological treatment in patients in their practice, according to guideline criteria
  6. Apply current asthma guidelines by adjusting pharmacological treatment in patients in their practice based on current levels of asthma control
  7. Identify the key elements in a personalized asthma action plan, including pharmacological directives
  8. Create personalized asthma action plans for patients in their practice
  9. Identify the criteria for severe asthma
  10. Apply current asthma guidelines by referring patients with severe asthma for specialist assessment
  11. Cooperate with patients to address barriers to achieving good asthma control and implementing their personalized asthma action plan
